Name: Dog Days
Brewer: Two Brothers Brewing Co., Warrenville, Ill.
By the numbers: About 150 calories per 12 oz.; 5.1 percent alcohol by volume
Notes: I remember back to my first experience with Two Brothers’ Domaine Dupage and my negative reaction and I’m glad I gave several of their other beers a shot. While Dupage is a fair representation of a Saison, I just didn’t like it. However, this Dortmunder-style lager is a great beer. It was very malt-forward, with a sweet caramel aroma immediately noticeable. It poured a golden yellow with a thick, frothy white head that took some time to subside. The taste was malty and sweet at first, but finished crisp with a burst of noble hops. I likened the taste to Schlafly’s Summer Lager.
Try it with: A summer beer festival? Two Brothers is hosting just such an event at its Warrenville brewery this coming Saturday, June 18. Called the Hop Juice Festival, it features Two Brothers brews, guest beers, music and even a homebrew contest. And proceeds go to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. I just went to a wine and beer fest in Mackinaw a couple of weekends ago and Bloomington’s own charity beer fest, Bruegala, will be coming up in August. Ahh, beer.
